Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has voiced his apprehension about the increasing trend of villages becoming 'empty' due to widespread migration to urban areas. Speaking at an event commemorating the 65th anniversary of Thamel-based Saraswoti Multiple Campus, the President called for collective efforts to address this concerning situation.

President Paudel noted that despite advancements in education, communication, roads, health, and electricity in villages after the advent of democracy, depopulation is a pressing issue. He emphasized the need for education policies that align with the socio-economic context and produce globally competitive human resources. The President urged academic institutions to take proactive initiatives toward this goal.

Expressing his concern, President Paudel stressed the importance of finding solutions to prevent the depopulation of villages. He highlighted the necessity of creating job opportunities and promoting vocational education to discourage youth from migrating abroad in search of careers.

Recounting his own connection to the campus, where he was once a student actively involved in the democracy movement, President Paudel commended Saraswoti Campus as a source of inspiration for Nepal's education sector. He urged the government to provide special support for the physical infrastructure of the country's oldest and leading educational institution.

Acting Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Prof Dr. Shiva Lal Bhusal, emphasized the need to strengthen existing educational institutions rather than establishing new ones. He underscored the importance of aligning the university with the state's plan for achieving success.

The founding Campus Chief of Saraswoti Campus, Prof Shankar Raj Pathak, recalled President Paudel's active involvement during his student life and expressed optimism that the country would achieve development and prosperity through his continued activism.

Saraswoti Multiple Campus, established on Poush 10, 2016 BS, caters to around 7,000 students and holds a significant place in Nepal's education history.
